What is aus.directory?
An independent directory of the websites Australians use most. We cover the ten most popular website categories, rank the top 10 sites in each (100 sites total), and compare every list side-by-side on cost, accounts, apps and ownership. There’s also one practical guide per category.
How are the rankings decided?
Editorially, against four criteria: reach (how many Australians use it, based on public traffic estimates and recognition), usefulness, trust, and relevance to Australians. The full method is on the How we rank page. Rankings are our opinion, clearly labelled as such.
Is this live traffic data?
No — and we’re upfront about that. Rankings are informed by public traffic estimates and brand recognition at review time, not a live measurement feed. Treat the order as an editorial judgement you’re welcome to argue with.
Can a website pay to be listed or ranked higher?
No. There are no paid placements, no sponsored positions and no listing fees — and there’s no mechanism to buy one. If a site appears here, it’s because we judged it one of the ten Australians use and value most in its category.
Do you use affiliate links?
No. Every outbound link is a plain link — we earn nothing if you click it or buy something afterwards. We have no commercial relationship with any listed site.
How often are the lists updated?
Roughly twice a year as a full review (the current lists are dated June 2026), with clear factual corrections — dead links, changed ownership, closures — fixed faster as they’re reported.
Why aren’t gambling or adult sites listed?
Deliberate editorial policy: we exclude both categories entirely, regardless of their traffic. The directory is meant to be safely useful to any Australian household.
How do I get a website added to a list?
Use the suggest form — tell us the site, the category and why it belongs in the top 10. A human reviews every submission against the same four criteria. There’s no fee, and suggesting your own site is fine; it’s judged like any other.
I run a listed site and something is wrong — what do I do?
Tell us via the contact page (or the suggest form) and we’ll correct factual errors — ownership, pricing, descriptions — promptly. Site operators can also request removal of their listing; we honour reasonable requests.
Is the banking page financial advice?
No. Everything on this site, the banking category included, is general information only — we don’t know your circumstances and we’re not licensed advisers. Check rates, fees and terms with providers, and consider professional advice for financial decisions.
Who runs aus.directory? Are you affiliated with the sites you list?
aus.directory is an independent Australian project with no ownership ties to any listed site. Trademarks belong to their owners; a listing is not an endorsement in either direction. You can reach us via the contact page.
Can I quote or republish your rankings?
Brief quotation with a link to aus.directory is welcome — that’s in our conditions. Please don’t republish substantial portions without attribution, or present our editorial rankings as live traffic measurements.
