Rankings you can argue with.

Every list on this site is an editorial judgement — so here's exactly how those judgements get made, what they're based on, and where the limits are.

The method

Four questions decide every ranking.

We pick the ten categories Australians spend the most online time in, then rank the ten standout sites in each by asking the same four questions.

  • 1. Reach — how many Australians actually use it? We lean on public traffic estimates, app-store presence and general brand recognition. We do not have (and don't claim) live traffic data.
  • 2. Usefulness — does it do its core job well? A focused site can outrank a bigger one that's drowning in ads or upsells.
  • 3. Trust — is it who it says it is, with real accountability? Official bodies and established brands score here.
  • 4. Relevance to Australians — local sites and strong Australian editions beat global sites with no local presence.
The fine print, up front

Independence and limits.

Nobody pays to be here

No site has paid for a placement, a position or a kind word. There are no affiliate links anywhere in the directory, and we have no commercial relationship with any listed site.

A snapshot, not a feed

Lists are reviewed roughly twice a year (last: June 2026). Ownership, pricing and features change between reviews — the comparison tables are an indicative guide, and the site itself is always the source of truth.

Deliberate exclusions

We don't list gambling or adult sites in any category, regardless of their traffic. Banking pages carry an extra reminder: we publish general information, never financial advice.

Opinion, clearly labelled

"Top 10" is our editorial view, not a measurement. If you'd order a list differently, you're probably not wrong — and if we've got a fact wrong, tell us and we'll fix it.

Corrections move fast

Wrong owner, dead link, changed pricing, a site that shut down — report it and it's fixed in the next update, usually sooner.

Trademarks stay theirs

Every listed name and brand belongs to its owner. Listing means we think Australians use and value the site — it is not an endorsement, and no listed site endorses us.

Disagree with a ranking?

Good — that's what the suggest form is for. Make the case and we'll weigh it at the next review.
